Ensembles

Part of the joy of playing music is performing with other musicians. Bronstein Music School offers our students the chance to play in ensemble groups that meet regularly at our school. Here are some examples:

Rock Band
Tired of playing video game rock music? Want to play in a real rock band? Then our Rock Band course is for you. The ensemble is led by a studio musician, experienced rock player and teacher. Each session of this course adds more challenging music for the band. The class culminates in a live performance at a local venue.


Contemporary Styles Ensemble
The Contemporary Styles Ensemble class is designed for instrumentalists who already play and are ready to play in a group. The focus is placed on contemporary Rock styles: Indie, Alternative, Rock, Metal; as well as any other styles that students wish to play. This class is open to Guitar, Bass, Keyboard, Brass, Woodwinds, Strings, Percussion, and Singers. An interview with the ensemble teacher is needed to determine the level of proficiency. Space is limited.


Brass Ensembles
Our annual summer brass ensemble class is for the following instruments:

  • Trumpet
  • French horn
  • Trombone
  • Euphonium/baritone horn
  • Tuba

The class will work on developing students' abilities within the context of an all-brass ensemble. Class size will range between 5 and 10 students and will be 50 minutes in length. This class may be all one level or may be divided into two levels depending upon enrollment. The eighth class will be a recital of prepared musical selections.


Woodwind Ensembles
Our annual summer woodwind ensemble class is for the following instruments:

  • Clarinet
  • Saxophone
  • Flute
  • Oboe
  • English horn
  • Bassoon

The class will work on developing students' abilities within the context of an all-woodwind ensemble. Class size will range between 5 and 10 students and will be 50 minutes in length. Thiis class may be all one level or may be divided into two levels depending upon enrollment. The eighth class will be a recital of prepared musical selections.


Jazz Sax Ensembles
Our annual summer jazz saxophone ensemble class is for the following instruments:

  • Soprano sax
  • Alto sax
  • Tenor sax
  • Baritone sax

The class will work on developing students' abilities within the context of an all-saxophone ensemble. Class size will range between 5 and 10 students and will be 50 minutes in length. This class will focus on swing, funk, ballad, Latin and other contemporary styles. Classes are ideal for students who want to improve their skills for playing in a school band.

Intermediate level detail: Introduction of styles, with primary focus on learning how to swing. Ideal for the student with limited jazz experience, or for someone looking to join their school jazz band for the first time.

Advanced level detail: Play though a variety of styles. Content of jazz theory (improvisation) dependent on level of players. Can also discuss saxophone voicing (block, drop-2, 4, & 5-part open).

Note: Classes not meeting minimum participation numbers may be rescheduled or canceled. All participants are urged to enroll early to avoid classes being canceled. Full refeunds will be made promptly for any canceled class.
