How much do private lessons cost?
Private lessons cost from $32 per half hour.

Are there any other costs?
For private and semi-private lessons, there is a one time enrollment fee of $50. This is due at the initial registration.

When do I pay for the private lessons?
You pay the teacher at the first lesson of the month for the full month.

What methods of payment are there?
The teachers accept checks and cash. They do not accept credit cards. Please make checks payable to the teacher.

How long are the lessons?
Most of the private lessons are 30 minutes long. Some teachers offer 45-minute or 60-minute lessons. Check with one of our registration coordinators for details.

Are group lessons available?
Group lessons are available for some instruments, including guitar and ukulele. See the group lessons page for more information.

How much do group lessons cost?
The cost for group lessons varies by class. See the tuition page for more information.

Are semi-private lessons available?
Semi-private lessons are available for some instruments, including guitar, ukulele, violin, voice, brass and woodwinds. Participation requires teachers' approval to insure proper placement. Each 8-week session is payable in advance. Pricing is based on the number of students in each session. See the tuition page for more information.

Are ensemble lessons available?
Yes. At various times throughout the year, the following ensembles are available: Rock Band, Brass Ensembles (intermediate and advanced), Woodwind Ensembles (intermediate and advanced), and Sax Ensembles (intermediate and advanced). See the tuition page for more information.

Do you offer in-home lessons?
No. All of our lessons are taught at Bronstein Music School, 363 Grand Avenue, South San Francisco.

How old do you have to be to take lessons?
It depends on the instrument and the student. For example, some piano students can start as early as 5 years old. Students of other instruments usually start at around 9 or 10 years old.

Am I ever too old to start lessons?
You are never too old to start learning music. About 30 percent of the students at Bronstein Music School are adults, and many of them are first-time music learners.

Do I need to have previous musical experience before taking private lessons?
Our teachers start at the very beginning, so no previous musical experience is required.

How long will it take for me to get good?
Great question! It all depends on your commitment to the instrument you have chosen and to the time you are able to spend with that instrument.

How much to I have to practice?
For beginning students, most of our teachers recommend that you practice 10 to 20 minutes a day.

Whatís the easiest instrument to learn?
Every instrument requires some learning and thereís really no "easiest" instrument. Our experience shows that the easiest instrument is the one that the student really wants to play.

How do I choose a teacher?
Read the biographies of our teachers and decide which person best fits your needs.

Who is the best teacher?
All of our teachers are accomplished musicians and experienced music educators. The best one is the one who meets the overall needs of the student.

Does a student need to audition before starting private lessons?
No audition is required to take private lessons. Our teachers welcome students of any musical background, including those who are complete beginners.

What is the minimum time commitment for a new student?
We require a one month commitment for new students. After that, itís month-to-month.

What openings are there?
Since our schedules can change on a daily basis, please check with our schoolís registration coordinators in person.

When are lessons offered?
Bronstein Music School is open 6 days a week. On weekdays, private lessons start in the afterschool hours and go until early evening. On Saturdays, lessons start in the mid-morning and go until late afternoon. Check with the schoolís registration coordinators for the current schedule and instructor availability.

How often are the lessons?
Private lessons are held once a week.

Can I take a lesson every other week?
No. The teachers maintain constant schedules that require weekly lessons.

Do I need to attend every lesson?
Students are expected to attend every lesson. In the event that a student needs to miss a lesson, the teacher should be notified at least 24 hours in advance.

Can I drop in for a lesson?
Since our teachers have precise schedules that they need to follow, we donít allow for drop-in lessons. But, if a teacher has a last-minute cancellation, they may be able to meet with another student at that time. We leave this type of ad-hoc scheduling up to the individual teachers.

If I need to switch times, how can I do that?
The teacher should be notified at least 24 hours in advance of any requested schedule change.

What is the cancellation policy?
If a lesson is canceled, the student must call the teacher directly and a make-up lesson should be scheduled. If making up a lesson is not possible, then the missed lesson shall be credited for the next monthís tuition. Students who miss and DO NOT call within 24 hours will be charged and no make-up lesson will be given. Students should call the school for any last minute cancellations. In the event of extreme emergency, the teacher will determine charges for last or missed lessons.

What materials will I need for lessons?
The teachers usually recommend one or more music books for their students. These are available at Bronstein Music. Additional instrument supplies may also be recommended.

Do I need my own instrument?
Bronstein Music School provides pianos, drum sets, and guitar amplifiers for private and group lessons. All other lessons require that the student provides his or her own instrument.

How does a student get an instrument?
Bronstein Music has instruments for rent and purchase. The teachers can provide recommendations regarding brands and level of instrument (beginning, intermediate, or professional).

If Iíve taken private lessons at Bronstein Music School in the past, do I need to pay a registration fee to continue private lessons?
No. The registration fee for private lessons is a one-time fee. Once youíre a registered student, youíre always a student.

If Iím taking private lessons from multiple teachers, do I need to re-register?
No. You only need to register once.

If I want to learn more than one instrument from the same teacher, how to I do that?
Check with the teacher to see if they have openings in their schedule for the other instrument. Then sign up with one of the registration coordinators at the school.
