John Hettel, upright bass teacher

John has extensive experience performing in live concerts, musical theater, television, movies and nightclubs. He has numerous recording credits on movie soundtracks, television programs, commercials, educational films and documentaries. He has also recorded several genres including jazz, pop and gospel. Some artists he has performed with are Joe Williams, Madeleine Eastman, Al Jarreau, Mark Levine, Don Hass, Eric Marienthal, Tom Scott, Gary Foster, Dave Garibaldi, Chad Wackerman, Jeff Beal, Clare Fischer, Gordon Goodwin and Jorge Callendrelli.

John also teaches Electric Bass.


Travis Kindred

Travis Kindred, upright bass teacher

Travis has been playing electric and upright bass for over 13 years. Starting in small rock bands, he quickly moved into jazz and orchestral music. Travis has since served as the section leader for the bass section of many orchestras in schools such as Diablo Valley College and San Francisco State University. He has also played in many different jazz, rock, funk, latin and world music ensembles throughout the bay area.

Travis holds a B.A. in music from SF State where he primarily studied Baroque and 20th Century music, often re-arranging pieces for the double bass. Travis also works as a composer ranging from commercial music and stage underscoring to writing and performing for dance troupes, orchestras, poets and art exhibitions.

Travis has been teaching private lessons and group classes for over 5 years throughout California. His students have gone on to earn degrees in music, have joined popular touring ensembles and have simply enjoyed playing the bass.

Travis also teaches Electric Bass.
